How to care for your upholstery fabrics

Regular maintenance/cleaning
- light vacuuming
- brushing with a soft brush in pile direction
- carefully rub with a damp cloth in pile direction
Stain removal
- golden rule for removing the stain is ‘speed’
- blot up spills with clean white tissues
- remove solid build up materials with a teaspoon
Water soluble stains
- beer - blot up as much as possible. Apply detergent solution and blot
- blood - treat with cold water
- chocolate - scrape off as much as possible with a tea spoon. Apply cool detergent
solution
- vomit - blot up as much as possible. Apply enzyme detergent and blot
- wine - apply lemon juice, salt or vinegar and blot. Rinse with cold water
Stains - not water soluble
- butter, cream - apply solvent and blot
- chewing gum - harden the gum
with a block of ice so you can scrape off with a
teaspoon.
- grease - apply dry cleaning solvent and blot
- oils - apply dry cleaning solvent and blot
Stain removal solutions
Detergent solution -
- Mix 1 teaspoon of a colourless mild detergent or shampoo in a cup with water
Dry cleaning solution -
- Use benzine applying in small amounts. Excess can be harmful to backing and stuffing
of materials
- DO NOT USE PETROL OR LIGHTER FUEL
